Introduction to Airbending with Cayman

A brief survey of the four Chinese martial arts in That Netflix Show Everyone Is Watching.
Just about anyone who has Netflix and spare time has (re)discovered Avatar: The Last Airbender over the past 6 months. The four elemental arts in the show are based off of studying and motion-capturing four martial arts from eastern and southern China: Ba Gua Zhang, Northern Shaolin, Hung Ga Kuen, and Tai Chi Chüan. We’ll spend a little time exploring what makes each of these styles a good thematic fit for their element, what makes them different from each other, and what they have in common with other martial arts like Tang Soo Do. All ages and ranks are welcome, we’ll probably look at something in detail from each art (a sequence from a form, a stance, a grab-escape, and a one-step), switching between talking, observing, and exercising.
Bing-watching the Netflix series is highly recommended but not necessary. Wear comfortable workout clothes like gi pants and your new 2020 TKA Camp Tshirt.
